Can You Play Horses of Hoofprint Bay Now?

You can start building your stable today without waiting for a beta invitation. If you searched for the Horses of Hoofprint Bay playtest, the full game launched on Steam on November 4, 2026, and the free demo remains available. That matters because older Horses of Hoofprint Bay playtest announcements describe selective access during development, while the demo and released game give you direct ways to play.

As of November 5, the practical choice is between trying the demo and purchasing the finished game. You do not need to join a beta, receive a testing key, or wait for selection to buy the full release.

Version Access status as of November 5, 2026 What to do
Full game Released on November 4 Purchase and install through Steam
Free demo Remains available after launch Download the demo to try the opening portion
Development playtest Current admissions are unconfirmed Treat older registration announcements as historical

Visit the official Horses of Hoofprint Bay Steam store for the full game, or open the Horses of Hoofprint Bay demo page for the free version.

If your main concern is whether you enjoy the care interactions and riding controls, start with the demo. If you already know you want to develop a stable across generations of horses, the full game removes the demo’s day limit.

Steam lists Windows and Linux support for the released game. It does not list a native Mac version. Check the requirements for your operating system on the store page before installing.

How playtest Registration Worked

The playtest went through several development stages. Those stages explain why searches still surface instructions about requesting access, reapplying, waiting for emails, and testing unfinished content.

The key detail is the date attached to each announcement. An invitation published during development does not establish that the same application process remains open after release.

Announcement date What the developers announced How to interpret it now
December 3, 2025 Initial playtester registration, with small groups selected randomly Historical access instructions for the early test
May 22, 2026 Beta registration opened with a fresh applicant pool Earlier alpha applicants needed to apply again for that beta
October 9, 2026 Plans to invite another batch of testers ahead of the updated demo Advance testing for the October demo
November 4, 2026 Full game released Purchasing the game no longer depends on testing access

During the May beta, Steam randomly selected participants from registered applicants. The developers admitted only small groups to keep feedback manageable and explicitly warned that registration would not guarantee admission.

That beta represented the broader game as it existed during development. It included unfinished content and had no day limit, unlike the public demo. Access was intended for testing and feedback.

The October announcement described another planned testing batch ahead of Steam Next Fest, which ran October 19–26. Its purpose was to check the updated demo before the festival.

For someone arriving after launch, none of these older announcements guarantees a new invitation. There is also no confirmed current admission window to rely on. The official Steam news feed is the place to check for any newly dated testing announcement.

What the Free Demo Includes Compared With the Full Game

The updated October demo is the useful starting point for understanding the opening game. The developers rebalanced it to more closely match the first 25 in-game days of the full release.

That change matters if you watched footage from February. Starter horses received lower stats, and the developers cautioned that players would probably progress less far within the same demo limit. An older video showing rapid advancement is therefore a poor benchmark for your new stable.

Feature or restriction October demo Full release
Access Free download Paid game
Day limit 25 in-game days No gameplay day limit
Progression scope Opening portion of the game Continued stable development beyond the demo
Save compatibility Saves are compatible with the full game Can continue compatible October demo progress
Development status Public sample updated for October Finished release, without a major content roadmap

The October update introduced horse walks, including walks with foals, Caprilli tests, additional trail environments, desensitization training, face markings, and Appaloosa patterns. This makes the demo more representative of the opening experience than the February version.

The full game’s store description covers grooming, hoof care, training, competitions, breeding, building upgrades, and staff management. Your initial yard can grow as you earn money and improve its facilities. Breeding also gives you longer-term goals involving inherited coloring, white patterns, and personality traits.

For readers comparing the playtest with the demo, the main distinction is purpose: the beta offered selected participants an unfinished development build, while the demo provides a public introduction.

Use your demo time to assess the activities you will repeat:

  • Try the grooming and hoof-care interactions.
  • Practice riding and the available training exercises.
  • Explore the opening progression at its intended pace.
  • Check whether the controls and difficulty settings suit you.

The official FAQ confirms adjustable competition difficulty and prestige gain, plus an auto-jump accessibility option. If jumping is your main obstacle, try that setting before deciding the controls are unsuitable.

The 25-day limit refers to game days, not 25 real-world days or a fixed number of hours. It also does not promise access to every late-game system within that window.

Which Demo and Playtest Saves Transfer?

October demo saves are compatible with the full game; February demo saves are not. This version distinction resolves the apparent contradiction between older announcements saying demo saves would not transfer and later announcements saying they would.

The March development update discussed incompatibility before the October demo existed. The updated demo incorporated subsequent changes, and the developers specifically confirmed its compatibility. The official game FAQ repeats that distinction.

Save origin Transfer information Practical implication
February demo Not compatible with the full game Expect to begin a new stable in the release
October demo Compatible with the full game Choose this demo version if continuing later matters
Initial playtest announced in December 2025 Developers said its saves would not transfer and would be removed when that test ended Do not treat those saves as permanent release progress
May 2026 beta A current transfer guarantee is not established Do not apply the October demo promise to beta saves

A playtest save and a demo save should not be treated as interchangeable. Compatibility statements apply to the specific version named by the developers.

Before purchasing specifically to continue an existing stable, establish which version created it. The age of the save alone may not settle that question because the February demo remains available on a separate Steam branch.

The developers’ October instructions explain how to access that older branch: right-click the demo in your Steam library, open Properties, select Game Versions and Betas, and choose February Demo. That is an option for revisiting the older version; its saves remain incompatible with the full game.

A compatible save also does not establish a particular manual migration procedure. The FAQ confirms compatibility without providing a file-copying walkthrough, so there is no basis for prescribing folders, filenames, or conversion steps here.

Can You Stream Gameplay or Report Bugs After Release?

The old playtest footage request applied to the unfinished testing build. During the May beta, the developers asked testers to avoid streaming or posting footage because it contained unfinished material.

The November 4 launch announcement provides a separate creator policy for the released game. It allows videos and streams, including monetized content, and permits the game’s music within those gameplay videos and streams.

The music permission has limits:

  • You may include it in videos and streams of Horses of Hoofprint Bay.
  • You may not upload the soundtrack by itself.
  • You may not use that music in unrelated videos or streams.

These permissions appear in the official release announcement and creator policy.

For a new gameplay channel or launch stream, follow that released-game policy. Do not assume the earlier request against showing beta footage prohibits ordinary coverage of the finished game. Equally, the launch announcement does not explicitly grant permission to publish archived closed-test footage.

Older instructions about feedback also need their original context. The May beta announcement described a private Discord area accessible through an invitation in the test build’s main menu. It also identified F7 for feedback and F8 for bug reports in that beta.

Those details explain how selected testers submitted reports at the time. They should not be presented as verified shortcuts or guaranteed Discord access for every current version.

For the released game, consult its current reporting information and developer announcements. The official FAQ says the team intends to address bugs and minor requests, while avoiding promises of major new features or a long-term content roadmap.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the playtest still accepting players?

Current admissions are unconfirmed as of November 5, 2026. The known registration announcements concern earlier development tests. You can access the free demo or purchase the released game without receiving a playtest invitation.

Is the demo still free after Steam Next Fest?

Yes. The developers said both the February and October demos would remain available after release. The October demo has a 25-in-game-day limit and supports saves that can continue into the full game.

Will all my old progress carry over?

No. October demo saves are compatible, but February demo saves are not. The initial playtest also had an explicit nontransfer policy. A separate guarantee for May beta saves is not established, so identify your save’s originating version before relying on transfer.

Is the full game an Early Access release?

No. Horses of Hoofprint Bay launched as a finished game on November 4, 2026. The developers have not promised a major content roadmap. The full version has no gameplay day limit, allowing you to continue developing your stable beyond the demo’s opening period.
